As you begin this Autumn journey of “Letting Go”, I invite you to take some time to reflect on these two poems. One might speak to you more than another. In our conversation, we will share the insights and of how they spoke to us.
Journey conjures up a sense of movement, a dynamic activity. It informs us and helps to shape our present. It also provides an opportunity for us to reflect on our past and ponder our future. What do we need to change and grow as we move ahead? What are the stumbling blocks that get in the way and make your journey more burdensome? Just some questions to think about.
Poem One by E.H.
“Hold on, hold on, hold on,” they said,
“You’re a dandelion in the breeze,
Look what the winds of change have done
to all these autumn leaves.”
“Hold on, hold on, hold on,
This big wide world is not for you,
Hold on for long enough
for the last gust to dance on through.”
So, I held on, held on, held on,
They said that’s how you know you’re strong,
But not until I wilted
did I notice something wrong.
I thought holding on was bravery,
But when winds of change do blow,
Sometimes it’s even braver still
to let go, let go, let go.
Poem Two by April Green
Let it Go
Let it go
then see what kind of magic
returns in its place.
Because,
I promise that
what’s for you
will never reach you
while you’re clinging
to something else.
